OnePlus Mini Spotted in Leaked Renders; Dual-Rear Camera Setup in Tow

OnePlus has in the past confirmed plans to launch more than one handset this year. OnePlus Co-Founder, Carl Pei, back in August had suggested that a new OnePlus smartphone would be revealed before the end of the year – in time for Christmas. Now, the first leaked images of the upcoming OnePlus handset have popped up on the Internet.

Believed to be dubbed OnePlus Mini, the handset is seen featuring a different design than that seen on the OnePlus One or the recently unveiled OnePlus 2. Posted by a Chinese site, the handset’s front and back panels can be seen in the new leaked images.

It’s worth noting that previously a rumoured OnePlus One Mini handset was spotted in leaked images late last year. However, the new images posted by the Chinese site shows a different design language for the handset.

oneplus_mini_front_leak_mobile_dad.jpgIn the first leaked image, the alleged OnePlus Mini’s front panel is seen while the other image shows the fingerprint scanner alongside a dual-camera setup at the back. The cameras were accompanied by a dual-LED flash module. The bottom panel is seen featuring a speaker grille alongside the charging slot. To recall, the OnePlus 2 houses the fingerprint scanner on the home button.

Details about the alleged OnePlus Mini are limited but we can expect to hear more on it soon.

Recently, OnePlus launched the first leather case for its OnePlus 2 smartphone. Priced at $99.99 (approximately Rs. 6,650), the Hard Graft Wild Phone Case for OnePlus 2 (Review) went on sale via the company’s online store.

Skype Facing Worldwide Outage

Unable to make calls to your friends using Skype? You’re not alone. Multiple users of Skype apps worldwide are reporting issues in Microsoft’s text, voice, and video service. The company on Monday acknowledged the issue and assured that it is working on a fix.

Multiple users are experiencing problems with Skype’s desktop and mobile apps. Users in India, Australia, Europe, United States, and New Zealand among several other nations are having issues. As per Internet service DownDetector, Skype was still down at the time of writing.

Microsoft on Monday acknowledged the issue, and noted that there’s a glitch with the status settings of Skype. “We have detected an issue with the status settings of Skype… Affected users will not be able to change their status, their contacts will all show as offline and they will be unable to start Skype calls to them… Instant messages are still being delivered as usual. The status issue also doesn’t affect Skype for Web, which can be used to make calls and send instant messages,” the Skype team wrote in a blog post.

The company assured that it is working on a fix. “We’re working on a fix for this issue and hope to have an update for you soon. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused while we get this resolved.”

Users attempting to sign into the Skype apps are shown the message, “We’re a bit overloaded right now…Please try again later, or download Skype to use it anytime.”.

What’s worth noting is that only Skype’s clients are facing the issue, and users can still use Skype for Web (the version of Skype that works on a Web browser). Also, users while can’t make voice and video calls using Skype’s desktop and mobile clients, they can still send instant messages to their friends and colleagues.

This 16-Character Link Crashes Google’s Chrome Browser

There are a number of ways to crash your Web browser. Just open tons of tabs and it is likely to give up after a certain point. Try installing too many extensions and the browser will suddenly start to get unresponsive. But if you use Chrome Web browser, it turns out there is a simpler way to crash it. Just enter in a specific 16-character string in the address bar of Chrome and it will disappear as if it saw a ghost.

Entering in the following 16-character link “http://a/%%30%30” (without the quotes) crashes Chrome. The bug, first discovered by Andris Atteka, allows a user to crash Chrome by adding a null character to a URL. Atteka devised a string of 26 characters that could crash Chrome. Folks at VentureBeat reducedit by 10 characters and it still works.

Atteka, who has informed Google about the bug in the Chromium tracker, noted that it’s not a security issue. “It seems to be crashing in some very old code. In the Debug build, it’s hitting a DCHECK on an invalid URL in GURL, deep in some History code. Given that it’s hitting a CHECK in the Release build, I don’t think this is actually a security bug, but I’m going to leave it as such,” he explains.

While it’s comforting to know that there isn’t any security complication attached to it, it’s still annoying considering even hovering the cursor over the link can crash the tab. The bug affects Chrome clients for Mac and Windows. In our brief testing, Chrome for Android and iOS were unaffected with the bug.Google is yet to patch the issue.

Peugeot 2008 DKR16 Announced For Dakar Rally

Peugeot has announced its new car for the Dakar Rally, the Peugeot 2008 DKR16 which will make it debut at the Dakar Rally in January.

The Peugeot 2008 DKR16 is an updated version of the Peugeot 2008 DKR, the new car is longer and wider than the previous model and it also comes with more power.

Peugeot’s engineers went over their ‘Lion’ piece by piece, analysing what could be done better, with the help of its Dakar experts Stéphane Peterhansel (an 11-time winner), Carlos Sainz (a two-time world rally champion and also former Dakar winner) as well as Cyril Despres (a five-time Dakar winner on bikes).

These improvements were gradually applied and assessed through a series of tests, culminating in a one-two finish for Peterhansel and Despres on the recent China Silk Road Rally using an interim-specification car. This was essentially the 2015 model, with a number of development parts for 2016 added.

The Peugeot 2008 DKR16 will make its debut later this year and will then race in the 2016 Dakar Rally next year.

GoPro Is Going Drone

gopro drone

GoPro cameras are everywhere, so attaching them to drones makes sense. So why doesn’t GoPro start building its own drones? That is a match that seems destined to happen. Well, the company sees it this way as well and GoPro founder and CEO Nick Woodman says that the company is indeed developing its own drone. I think it had to happen eventually. How could it not?

Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt SF Woodman confirmed that “development is on track for the first half of 2016. We have some differentiations that are right in the GoPro alley.” This is great news for people who make to takes lots of aerial video.

Woodman didn’t drone on, so he did not reveal what the company’s first drone will be able to do, or how much it will cost. It is too early right now. Hopefully the drone will be able to compete against the drones from the big-boys in the industry. Since development is said to be on track for the first half of 2016, we will have to wait a while for more news on this one, but eventually we will learn more and when we do, we will pass it on to our readers.

Instagram Hits 400 Million Active Users

Instagram has announced that it now has more than 400 million active users, the company has managed to add an extra 100 million users since December 2014.

The company also shared some details about its user bases, noting that they have gained more users around the world and more than 75 percent of their users are outside the US.

We are thrilled to announce that the Instagram community has grown to more than 400 million strong. While milestones like this are important, what really excites us is the way that visual communication makes the world feel a little bit smaller to every one of us.

Our community has evolved to be even more global, with more than 75 percent living outside of the US. To all the new Instagrammers: welcome! Among the last 100 million to join, more than half live in Europe and Asia. The countries that added the most Instagrammers include Brazil, Japan and Indonesia.

There are now more than 80 million photos shared every day on Instagram and the 400 million active monthly users means that Instagram now has more active users than Twitter.
